There are 2 ways to sell on Amazon – Mapping on Exiting Listings or Creating a new listing via Private Labeling.

Now, let’s explore the pros and cons of both and decide which way to go, together!

Let’s look at the above listing for a Lamp. 13 sellers are selling the same product and competing for the Buy Box.
Currently, seller “PRECIOUS INSTRUMENTS” has the buy box. This means that if a customer places an order on this listing, the order goes to this seller.
This process of putting your offer on an existing product listing is known as mapping.

The benefit of mapping is that one doesn’t have to worry about writing a title, bullet points, description, and clicking and editing images. But on the other hand, all the sellers are selling the same product, resulting in a price war that drives the prices down and makes it impossible to earn sustained profit over time.

Note: Ensure that you do not map over a Registered Brand (with Amazon Brand Registry) without an authorization certificate. This can result in the removal of your offer and may even attract legal action from the registered brand owner.

Now, let’s look at this Wooden Laptop Table from Popular Brand. This seller is the only seller for this listing.
This process of selling products in one’s brand name is called Private Labeling.
As a seller, you have to do extra effort in creating a listing by creating a title, bullet points, description, and clicking & editing images, but in the long run, it pays off. Private Labeling gives you more control over the selling price of the product, making it possible for you to enjoy handsome profit margins.

7.My Opinion: Until & Unless you are the manufacturer or distributor of a specific branded product, where you have a cost advantage, I strictly recommend you to go for Private Labeling. It gives your business a unique identity by building a brand, thereby resulting in better profit margins and more established business in the long run.
